Principal Project Manager

Renee Mezo joined Atlantis Group in 2025, bringing with her over 25 years of experience in project management, land use, and construction permitting, gained through her extensive career with the City of San Diego’s Development Services Department and Planning Department.

Renee began her career with the City as an intern and advanced through various roles, ultimately serving as Assistant Deputy Director. In this leadership position, she managed a team of 45 Development Project Managers and support staff, overseeing both large and small-scale development projects. She played a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with municipal regulations and guided projects through the complexities of the entitlement process.

In addition to her project management expertise, Renee was responsible for overseeing three critical hearing bodies: Planning Commission, Hearing Officer, and the Historical Resources Board. During her time in the the Planning Department, she led the Code Update Team which developed new regulations and policies, including annual updates to the Land Development Code, Homes for All of Us, Complete Communities, Short-Term Residential Occupancy, Moderate Income Housing, Sidewalk Vending, Parking Reductions and Mixed-Use Zoning.

Renee’s deep knowledge of land use, permitting, and municipal processes, combined with her ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, allows her to successfully navigate complex projects from start to finish, ensuring smooth approvals and alignment with city goals.
