The Corky McMillin Companies are pleased to announce that Kathleen Riser, the Vice President of Project Management for McMillin Land Development and expert on former BRAC site, Liberty Station, has been recruited to speak at the Local Government Commission’s 6th Annual “New Partners for Smart Growth: Building Safe, Healthy, and Livable Communities” conference. With unmatched knowledge and experience in her field, Ms. Riser was tapped for the February 8-10, 2007 conference at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
Considered the premier smart growth conference held each year, the 2007 New Partners for Smart Growth program will feature progressive smart growth issues, the latest research, implementation tools and strategies, successful case studies, and interactive learning experiences.
As one of the leading smart growth strategies covered at the conference, Ms. Riser will be speaking at the breakout session “Turning Bases into Great Places,” a response to the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Recommendations, which slated 25 U.S. military bases for closure. This session, on February 9, 2007, from 10:15 to 11:30 am in room San Gabriel A, will explore some of the major challenges and opportunities facing communities with closed or closing bases, and will look at two success stories, Liberty Station and Heritage Fields, and the lessons learned from their experiences. Ms. Riser will discuss the redevelopment of the former Naval Training Center (NTC) into Liberty Station, while Robert Santos, President & CEO of Lennar’s Heritage Fields Division, will discuss the realignment of the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station into Heritage Fields. The Moderator will be Megan Susman, Policy Analyst with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
