The Get-It-Done Gal

The NIMBY movement has set up shop in Carmel Valley, as residents are ready for a fight in 2013 over the Kilroy Realty Corporation’s One Paseo project involving housing and density and a whole lotta retail. They’re going to need a lot of help, because the One Paseo project has hired Escobar-Eck to be its community and government relations consultant. Known for her time as director of development for the cities of San Diego and Carlsbad (anyone remember a not-so-little building called Sunroad?), she started the private consultancy Atlantis Group in 2008 and has been thriving through the recession. She and her partner, Kathi Riser, specialize in complicated land-use projects, like getting a quarry entitled in Chula Vista in less than two years (usually it takes at least 10) and getting market-rate apartments built during a recession. So if you’re one of the thousands of residents along the highway 56 corridor, and you thought Burlap and Cinepolis were changing your quiet ’hood? Well, One Paseo is headed your way, and with Escobar-Eck on board, we’re betting it’s coming whether you like it or not. Atlantis is planning to hire one or two people in 2013, so if you can’t beat ’em, maybe join ’em?
